Maryland Wine Tasting – Made to Order!
Winetastings are the perfect way to learn about wine.
They’re also a perfect excuse to get together with friends,
office-mates or organization. By having an organized tasting, you
and your guests not only have a great time, but you learn details
about how each wine is produced, and how to fully appreciate its
complex aromas and flavors.
Winetastings are a great for:
•
receptions • parties
and celebrations
•
social events • gifts
A representative from the Maryland Wineries Association
will host the event and will be able to answer questions about the
wines poured, the Maryland wine industry and trends in wine worldwide.
*These tastings are for private events/parties
only.
The Maryland Wineries Association offers three types
of tastings:
- "Reserve" structured tasting:
Guests come to the event to learn about wine from a Maryland wine
representative. Your guests will be served one 1/2-oz sample of
Maryland wine at a time and will learn specific details about
each wine’s production from vine to bottle, proper tasting
techniques and information about food and wine pairing.
- "Cuvée" semi-structured
tasting: These events are less formal, and are primarily
social gatherings. One 1/2-oz sample of Maryland wine will be
poured to your guests at a time as the Maryland wine representative
announces each wine and its details.
- "Vintage" tasting:
Tables will be arranged to present Maryland wines. Knowledgable
staff will be on hand at each table to describe the various wines
and pour samples to your guests. This tasting is best as a secondary
element to your event.
For the event...
It’s best to have some sort of hors d'voures (cheese,
crackers and some vegetables are usually fine), and we would be
happy to provide suggestions for what may work best with the selected
tasting. If this is to be a catered event, we will work closely
with your caterer to ensure proper food pairing.
A structured tasting usually runs +/- 2 hours, and
we need 20 minutes to set up prior to the tasting. We ask that you
provide:
•Space
in your refrigerator/freezer for 3-5 wines.
•A
table for the wines and glasses.
•Pens/pencils
for notes.
Keep in Mind
During the event, we ask that you not serve any alcohol other than
the Maryland wine. The Maryland Wineries Association will provide
tasting glasses. We are not permitted to offer wines for sale or
provide full glasses of wines – our events are strictly
educational tastings.
