Maryland Wines with the Holidays
By Jennifer O’Keefe
Harvest marks the season of feasting, not only on
delicious foods but on savory and sweet wines too. It is time to
gather and celebrate the company of good friends and family and
there is no better way to do so than over a bottle of Maryland wine.
Now that all the grapes have been picked from the
vine, Maryland wineries are delighted to invite you in from the
cold and into all the wineries across the state.
Because all of the wineries are family-owned, the
winemakers will likely be available to greet you and provide details
about their winemaking process. The tasting room staff will be able
to educate you on the history of the winery, the land and of course,
the process of making wine. Along with the lesson, you will be guided
on a walk through the vineyard and cellar.
Once you have learned how your favorite type of wine
is produced from grapes into something exceptional, do not hesitate
to enjoy a glass or two during your visit. At the same time, be
sure let your taste buds try a variety of what each vineyard has
to offer.
Many of the wineries are tucked away into Maryland’s
beautiful terrain, just beyond the city and suburbs, a great escape
from the day to day. By spending time at each winery, you will not
only discover the surprisingly beautiful landscapes of the state
but also a greater understanding on the history of the land and
how it is being preserved.
After finding the right wine for you, there is no
better time than now to bring it to your table. The holiday season
is upon us and there is no doubt you will need a glass of wine to
accompany all the delectable foods you will be eating.
Wine makes a lovely gift in the season of giving.
Bringing a bottle of Maryland wine to a dinner or holiday party
is a nice way to share your experience and knowledge on something
so tasty.
