Sales tax on alcohol rises to 9% on July 1

In the 2011 legislative session, the Maryland General Assembly raised the sales tax on alcohol from 6% to 9%, effective July 1, 2011. The increase only affects sales of alcohol (bottles, cases, glasses, samples)—no other products or services.
