It’s with a deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of Carol Wilson from Elk Run Vineyards. She was 69.
Carol had been a leader in the industry since Elk Run’s inception in 1983. Carol played a key role in professionalizing the Maryland Wineries Association (MWA) during her term as president. Carol served on the Governor’s Advisory Commission on Maryland Wine & Grape Growing, and was an active member in leadership positions with the Frederick Tourism Council, Maryland Tourism Council, Maryland Restaurant Association, American Vintner’s Association (WineAmerica), the American Wine Society and more.
Carol was a dance instructor with degrees in dance and leisure studies from the University of Maryland and Georgetown University. Her creative spirit led her to chair MWA’s marketing committee for years, guiding the organization to institute Maryland Wine Week and its wine trail program.
Carol had a profound impact on all who encountered her. She was generous, funny, kind and an enthusiastic supporter of her industry peers.
Please keep the Wilsons and the entire Elk Run family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
