Catoctin Breeze Vineyard was established in 2010 by the Fizyta family with a vision to offer handcraft terroir-driven wines that exhibit a sense of place.
It’s located at 15010 Roddy Road in Thurmont, Maryland, in a “fruit belt” that runs along the spine of the South Mountain ridgeline from Pennsylvania south through Maryland and provides the mid-Atlantic with excellent terroir for grapes.
While there are weekly events, this is a destination that puts an emphasis on the relaxed atmosphere, the view and the quality of its wines. In the years since it opened, the winery has been a fixture in the state’s Governor’s Cup and Comptroller’s Cup competition, in many cases winning gold and in others finished at the top. Its 2015 Syrah was named best in class at the 2017 Atlantic Seaboard Wine competition and its 2016 Cabernet Franc was selected as best in show at the Comptroller’s Cup. In addition, three of its wines scored 90 and above in rating by the International Wine Review in 2018.
