Château Bu-De Winery – Full-time Assistant Winemaker Position

Château Bu-De Winery and Vineyard is looking to hire a full-time Assistant Winemaker.

JOB SUMMARY:

This person will be working alongside/under the supervision of the Winemaker and will be responsible for assisting in day-to-day cellar operations. Including, but not limited to, winemaking, harvest, vineyard management, bottling, and cellar organization and farm maintenance.

The Assistant Winemaker supports the Winemaker and other vineyard staff to expand further the winery’s production initiatives and long-term growth strategies. Working alongside the Winemaker, you will help ensure the highest quality grape and wine production by efficiently executing cellar & vineyard operational responsibilities.

Previous winery/winemaking experience, and a technical understanding of wine production, are preferred but not required.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (including but not limited to)

Help with the propagation & expansion of yeast and ML cultures.
Lab work: alcohols, T/A, pH, VA, Brix, ML chromatograms, etc.
Spraying vineyard, correct chemical addition, and working with larger machinery.
Barrel and tank sanitation/preparation/filling, and wine additions.
Gassing tanks.
Bottling and labeling.
Stirring & topping of wine barrels.
Fruit weighing.
Racking of wines.
Forklift driving.
Punch downs, press filling, and cleaning.
Growing and harvesting grapes.
General sanitation, safety, and cellar maintenance.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires a mixture of hands-on winery-related labor, laboratory skills, great attention to detail, wine supervision, and is a physically active role.

Ability to work independently, self-motivated, and show problem-solving skills.
Tertiary degree or diploma equivalent.
Excellent communication skills and a willingness to interact with patrons.
Comfortable presenting tastings and selling wine in general.
Spanish language skills are a plus, not required.
Strong record-keeping abilities.
Must be able to work long hours, especially during the summer/autumn months.
Take the initiative, multitask, and partner with other employees to assist as needed.
Be open and willing to learn new things, participate in a team environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

A highly physically active position requires this person to be on their feet the majority of the day.
The work position will expose you to indoor and outdoor environments.
The employee’s work environment can be wet, hot, and humid conditions.
Exposed to inclement seasonal weather, summer heat, cold weather, rain.
Ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing ladders, and twisting in a production environment.
Must be able to repeatedly lift and carry weights up to 50 pounds at varying frequencies throughout the day.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Full-time-SALARIED position. Salary is based on years of experience.
Weekly hours are turned in every other Sunday and paid biweekly.
