The International Wine Review (IWR) provided an in-depth report covering Maryland wines earlier this year. The scores from this review indicate that wine made in the Free State is accomplishing great things in the marketplace.
The 2015 EVOE! from Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard was awarded a score of 90.
Sugarloaf Mountain Vineyard 2015 EVOE! Maryland ($39) 90 – Semi-opaque. The 2015 vintage of this Bordeaux blend ups the amount of Petit Verdot as well as increased oak aging to 18 months. The wine is rich and spicy, showing notes of black raspberry and dark cherry on a mouth filling palate. Chewy and layered in texture, it shows rustic tannins that need more time to resolve. It’s more concentrated but less elegant than the 2013 vintage.
