Linganore Winecellars, Maryland’s largest and oldest family owned wineries on the East Coast, is nestled on 230 acres just outside of Mount Airy. Located within the Linganore American Viticultural Area, the first federally recognized grape growing region in the state, Linganore Winecellars is one of the few wineries in Maryland producing Estate Bottled wines. Established by Jack and Lucille Aellen in 1971, the family planted six acres of grapes the following year and then opened the winery 1976 using inherited hand processing equipment. Now in its 41st year, farming over 70 acres of grapes, and boasting three generations of winemaking, Linganore Winecellars is proud to be the oldest family owned winery in Maryland.
