Overview: Established in 1971, Linganore Winecellars is a family owned vineyard and winery located on 230 acres in Mount Airy, Maryland. We are seeking an organized, self-motivated individual who is interested in the wine making industry and possesses knowledge and experience to successfully fulfill all job functions.
Type of Work: Evening and weekend work may be required during harvest and, as necessary, throughout the year.
Position Summary: The successful candidate will report to the winemakers, assistant winemaker, and owners. Under the general direction of the Winemakers, the Cellar Master is responsible for the overall performance of the cellar team to achieve the desired wine quality and business goals. This encompasses short and long-term cellar work planning, managing cellar supplies, and inventory management. The Cellar Master will work closely with the winemaking team to hire full time and temporary cellar personnel, train and supervise personnel, and ensure safety management and cellar work procedures. Maintenance of the highest standard of cellar hygiene and organization in a winemaking facility is paramount.
The Cellar Master will be responsible for all cellar related duties, including:
Inventory management: Help to provide accurate counts of both bulk and bottled inventory.
Inventory health management: Monitor S02 additions, topping, cellar cleanliness.
Wine movements: Manage and perform all racking, sanitation, wine transfers, wine shipping, grape handling and harvest duties.
Bottling Operations: Manage bottling line, wine preparation prior to bottling, packaging materials inventories.
Harvest Operations: Maceration regimes, harvest schedule with Winemaker.
Help to perform all routine wine analyses on a monthly basis.
Maintain laboratory equipment and reagents.
Enter results into record database.
Ensure the safety of yourself and individuals during all aspects of winemaking.
Provide monthly inventories, bottling records, losses, movements for filing.
Provide informed, positive information to staff, customers and trade partners.
Manage all cellar staff
Manage all temporary bottling and harvest workers
Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Ability to climb staircases, ladders, walk uphill.
Ability to work weekends during peak times (harvest).
Ability to drive company vehicles, including forklift.
BS in Winemaking or Agricultural and/or Engineering.
Three years of experience as cellar worker.
English primary language of position.
Salary Information: $20 to $24 per hour, depending on experience.
